No. 7 Archbishop Spalding survived a back-and-forth battle, Friday night, to pull out a 28-24 non-conference road victory over Georgetown Prep, in Bethesda.

Quarterback Zach Abey paced the Cavaliers (7-2 overall) with 155 yards rushing and two short TD runs, as well as a 19-yard touchdown pass to Ronald Beswick.

Georgetown Prep (4-4) took a 24-21 lead when Ryan Rudasill scored on a 7-yard run on the final play of the third quarter.  When play resumed in the fourth quarter, however, Beswick raced 83 yards with the kickoff to give the Cavs the lead right back and neither team scored again.

The Little Hoyas took the early lead on a 20-yard field goal by Brian Dolan, but Spalding countered with a 2-yard run by Abey to lead 7-3 at the end of one quarter.

Abey added a 1-yard scoring run in the second, but Prep led, 17-14, at the half, thanks to a 5-yard touchdown run by Dage Davis and a 90-yard kickoff return by Davis.

Prep quarterback Corey Howard passed for 190 yards in the contest, with 136 coming for Stephen Johnson, who grabbed six balls.  Davis led the Hoyas on the ground with 77 yards.

Beswick finished with five catches for 31 yards and Avery Simmons added 77 yards to the Spalding running game.
