Two starters return for the Yellow Jackets, team preview

Despite being one of the smallest schools in the Baltimore Metro area in terms of student population, Chapelgate Christian Academy has consistently put out a competitive, hard-nosed boys’ basketball team and that should not change in 2016-17.

The Yellow Jackets return a pair of starters in sophomore center Jason Murphy, an emerging 6-7 performer who averaged eight points and nine rebounds as a freshman, and senior guard Jake Tringali.

Veteran coach Frick Frierson, now in his 12th year, is coping with the loss of three players expected to be key contributors, in junior guards Blake Hatcher and Cameron Heard and senior Sean Thomas, all lost to off-season injuries.

The Yellow Jacket lineup, however, will be bolstered by a pair of seniors in forward Cliff McEachin and guard Montaz McCray.

“The theme for the 2016-2017 season is “Play Smart, Play with Heart,” said Frierson.
