Former Trinity College star has served as the Admirals’ Defensive Coordinator for the last two seasons
Severn School has announced the hiring of Duane Tyler as the school’s new varsity head football coach.

Tyler has served the past two years as team’s defensive coordinator. Previously, Tyler spent four years as the defensive backs coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., from 2008-2011.

Tyler also played his college football at Trinity College where he helped lead the school to two NESCAC Championships, in 2004 and 2005. He was a team captain and a 2nd-Team All-NESCAC performer as a senior.

“We are thrilled that Coach Tyler has accepted this position at Severn. He has been a wonderful influence on our students the past two years and has done a tremendous job on our football staff,” said Domenech. “I know he will take what has been built the past five years and continue to grow it.”

Tyler expressed his excitement about the opportunity.

“I am truly blessed and honored to be called upon to take on this new role,” said Tyler. “This is an awesome game that teaches so much about life, character and perseverance. In my time here it has been a joy to teach the game that has taught me so much and pass along the passion and knowledge I coach and played with.

“There is something brewing within the players here and I’ve watched it grow greater every year, this is an opportunity to witness the outcome from the best point of view. I eagerly await the future for these boys and this program.”

Tyler replaces Chris Kirchenheiter who announced his departure in January. Kirchenheiter coached the Admirals for six years and finished with a 32-29 record.”
