In a tight MIAA A Conference basketball battle, No. 12 McDonogh School battled past Calvert Hall College , 54-51, on the road Monday night to complete a season-sweep of the Cardinals and move back into sole possession of first-place in the Red Division of the A Conference.
Junior Noah Locke had three 3-pointers and scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to help the Eagles (17-8 overall, 10-4 MIAA A) prevail. In addition, Damian Chong-Qui had a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists, while Willie Little had eight rebounds.
McDonogh led by four after one quarter and the game was tied at 27-27 at the half. The Eagles edged back out to a one-point lead after three quarters.
Luke Cornish led Calvert Hall with 16 points. Since upsetting then top-ranked Mount St. Joseph 10 days ago, the Cardinals (11-16 overall, 6-8 MIAA A) have lost four straight. The Cardinals are clinging to fourth-place and the last playoff position in the Red Division, but Archbishop Spalding (5-8) is just a half-game back and St. Frances (Academy 5-9) is within one game.
Calvert Hall visits Spalding on Wednesday.
