Senior's 3-pointer gives No. 9 Lakers victory
The Dunbar-Lake Clifton rivalry has defined Baltimore City boys' basketball for decades. The east Baltimore schools put on another thrilling show Tuesday as the ninth-ranked Lakers edged No. 13 Poets, 58-56, in a city league Division I contest.
Senior forward Andre Rafus hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation for Lake Clifton (16-4 overall, 5-2 Division I), which denied Dunbar twice in the final seconds. Rafus, a 6-foot-8 transfer from New Jersey's Roselle Catholic who played at St. Frances Academy as a freshman, finished with a game-high 30 points.
Damonte Moore and Dashawn Phillip each had 15 points for Dunbar (14-4, 4-3 Divison I), which was eliminated from the city title race Tuesday as No. 4 Poly defeated top-ranked Patterson in overtime. Poly and Patterson will play for the city title in a couple of weeks.
Lake Clifton plays at City College Friday while Dunbar visits Poly in a rematch of last year's city title game.
