No. 20 Owls battle past visiting Oakland Mills in fourth quarter

Gates CookDundalk High, which entered the VSN Boys Basketball Top 20 this week for the first time this season, at No. 20, improved to 16-5 on the season with a 64-59 win over Oakland Mills on Senior Night at Dundalk Monday evening.

After a close first half in which neither team had greater than a 5-point advantage, the Scorpions (6-14) scored the first nine points of the third quarter to take a 44-33 lead.

Gates Cook answered with a 3-pointer, starting a 13-3 run which brought the Owls to within one, at 47-46 after three quarters.  The Owls took their first lead in the second half on a Cook 3-point play, at 51-49.  Both teams went back and forth before the Owls took a 55-54 lead with 3 minutes to go and held on for the victory.

Cook and Jauwan Graham finished with 10 points each for the Owls, while Nick Parrish scored a team-high 14 points and Jaylon Johnson netted 10.

Oakland Mills’ Jordan Hopkins led all scorers with 21 points. The Scorpions also received 10 points from Brian Wheelock, with Jaylen Estep, Robert Burgess, with Daeshawn Eaton combining for 24 more.
