St. Paul’s wins lax opener in SoCal

Posner leads the Crusaders with four goals
In the first game of a three-game swing through Southern California to open its 2017 season, the St. Paul’s Lacrosse team routed La Jolla High School, 11-2, Tuesday evening near San Diego.

The Crusaders had all of the goals it needed to secure the victory when it outscored La Jolla 3-0 in the opening quarter.

Logan Posner led seven Crusaders with at least one goal, as he scored four and added an assist. Keegan Pearl also a had a big night, scoring two goals and adding three assists.

Matt Mayer added a three-point night, scoring a goal and distributing two assists. Brendan Tscherne, Riley Gaeger, Logan Zimnoch and Brandon Harry all added single goals. The Crusaders triggered 31 shots in the contest.

Tscherne dominated on face-offs, winning 12-of-12 draws. Alex Rode started in goal and made three stops. Jack Taylor and Bill Chizmar also logged some time in the Crusader cage, registering one save each.

On Thursday, St. Paul’s will visit Poway High School in San Diego. Poway, coached by former Archbishop Spalding coach Zach Burke, has won the last two California Interscholastic Federation lacrosse titles.

St. Paul’s will conclude its California schedule on Saturday with a visit to St. Margaret’s Episcopal.
