Gabbidon drops 42 in senior boys' basketball all-star event; Marriotts Ridge's Blalock pushes West to victory in girls' contest

For the first time, Howard County's senior all-star basketball games were held together Friday evening. It was a grand show at Long Reach High as the West girls and East boys were victorious along with a team mainly composed of HoCo private boys' standouts.

In the girls' contest, Marriotts Ridge's Caroline Blalock was the hero, scoring the lead basket with five seconds left in regulation and followed with a steal, giving the West a 48-47 decision. Blalock, who helped the Mustangs to the Class 2A state semifinals and will play lacrosse for the University of Louisville next year, finished with four points.

Ryan Jones, who led Atholton to the 3A state final last weekend, posted a team-high 10 points for the West. Emleigh Scott, who helped Howard to the HoCo league title, finished with eight points to lead the East squad.

The East was able to claim a split as Oakland Mills' Brian Wheelock scored 20 points and Howard's Tanner Scaife added 19 in a 90-67 decision over the West. Marriotts Ridge's Marcus Lunsford had 18 points for the West.

In the finale, Glenelg Country School's Jalen Gabbidon had an impressive showing, leading Maryland to a 116-99 decision over Howard County. Gabbidon finished with 42 points and Jake Tringali from Chapelgate Christian Academy added 19.

Reservoir guard Judge Payne went for 36 points for Howard, and Atholton's Jacob Waterwort finished with 18.
