Patriots pound out 14 hits in IAAM A Conference victory
The John Carroll School softball team continued its outstanding start to the 2017 season as the 13th-ranked Patriots improved to 3-0 with a win over No. 6 Archbishop Spalding in an IAAM A Conference game.

John Carroll (3-0), which knocked Perryville from the area’s top ranking in its last game, scored in all six of its at bats against the Cavaliers.

Shannon Sweeney, Emma Kropkowski, Meghan Sheehan, Emma Ritter and Sarah Spaeth all collected multiple hits, while home runs came from Sweeney, Ritter, Gabby Centi and Jules Donnelly. In addition, Sara Dieter smacked a triple.

Winning pitcher Emma Kropkowski threw a complete game, giving up six runs on 12 hits.

Spalding did most of its damage in the sixth inning when it scored five times. Jordan Johnson had three hits, while Mary Sena and Makenzie Maenner hit home runs for the Cavaliers.
