Hat tricks from Morris and Shaw lead RPCS in playoff opener

No. 13 Reds advance to face Garrison Forest on Tuesday 
Playing at home on Thursday afternoon, No. 13 Roland Park Country School kicked off the IAAM A Conference lacrosse playoffs with a 13-8 win over visiting St. Mary’s.

RPCS, the sixth-seed, trailed 7-6 at the half, but outscored the 11th-seeded Saints, 7-1, in the second half to win going away.

Senior Hailey Morris and sophomore Kaitlin Shaw each scored three goals to lead the offensive attack. Sophomore Chelsea Kovinsky and senior Cameron McGee added two goals each, while Marianna Salvatori, Sierra Cockerille, Shannon Smith scored one goal each.

McGee had three assists and Korvinsky had two helpers, while Shaw, Smith and Savatori had one each.

St. Mary’s Shelby Harrison led all scorers, netting five goals. Bryce Pfundstein, Spira Rosseau and Marielle McAteer each scored once for the Saints.

With the victory, Roland Park advanced to Tuesday’s quarterfinal round as they will travel to third-seeded and ninth-ranked Garrison Forest School. The four other first round games will all be played on Friday.
