VSN recently caught up with Oakland Mill's Jasmine Hill to talk about her summer plans and getting ready for her senior year.

hillOakland Mill’s basketball player Jasmine Hill had an outstanding junior season for the Scorpions and was named the Howard County Player of the Year. She averaged 20 points per game and led her team to a second place finish in the league.

This summer, Hill is hitting the AAU circuit to help improve her recruiting stock and prepare for her senior season.

VSN: Oakland Mills returns most of its starters in the winter, including yourself, are there high expectations for team?

Yes, we have high expectations which are to earn a county championship and hopefully make it to states.

VSN: What are some of your goals for senior year?

For my senior year, I want to have fun and enjoy my last year of high school basketball and win some games.

VSN: How has the AAU season been coming along? What kind of places has your team traveled to?

AAU season has been really busy. We have traveled to Hampton, Virginia and we are going to Georgia in early July.

VSN: Were you surprised to win the Howard County Player of the Year?

I was surprised because usually it goes to a senior or a player from the best team in the county.

VSN: How has recruiting been going? Are there any schools that you are interested in?

Recruiting is hectic and busy. Lafayette, University of New Hampshire, Hofstra, Hampton, New Jersey Institute of Technology have all shown interest.

VSN: What do you like best about your game?

I like that I can get to the free throw line.

VSN: What is one of the most memorable moments while playing ball?

A memorable moment was when I made the game-winning shot in an eighth grade AAU game.

VSN: What do you like to do outside of playing basketball?

Hang out with my friends and watch Sponge Bob.

VSN: Any pregame rituals, superstitions or music that gets you ready for a game?

I always eat fruit, whether it's a smoothie or an apple or an assortment of everything. During high school games, we all gather around in the locker room and say the same thing.

VSN: What is something that most people don't know about you?

I would say most people don't know that I'm half Jamaican.
