Northwestern gets two victories the hard way

Wildcats hold off MATHS, rallies past Friendship Academy
Senior Darshawn Grove had 16 points and six rebounds as Northwestern High defeated MATHS, 51-49, in a non-league boys’ basketball contest Monday. Dante Howze, also a senior, added 12 points and five steals for the Wildcats (4-4 overall).

Friday, the Park Heights Avenue school defeated Friendship Academy. Sophomore Maurice Simpson scored 26 points for Northwestern which overcame a 17-point second half deficit.

The Wildcats converted 23 of 28 free throws and limited FAST to six points in the final period. Sean Christian added 11 points and Howze finished with 10.

Northwestern is 2-0 in the Baltimore City League’s Division II. The Wildcats host Mervo Friday afternoon in league play.
