St. John's Catholic Prep tops Park to takeover C Conference lead

Gairey leads the Vikings with 23 points
St John's Catholic Prep continued its winning streak in MIAA C Conference basketball, Wednesday, as the Vikings defeated Park School, 67-56.

SJCP, the defending champion, was led by sophomore point guard Oshea Gairey, who scored 23 points and dished out six assists. The young Vikings also got strong contributions from sophomore guard Trevor Lecuona, who scored 15 points, and solid post play from Matthew Balcarek and Grier Wilson, who combined for 21 points.

The win puts St John's (15-9 overall) in the top spot of the C Conference with a 12-2 league record.  The Vikes are battling Indian Creek (10-3) for the top spot and reached first place, in part, with a 69-60 win over ICS last Saturday.

In that contest, Gairey led the charge with 20 points and seven assists, while sophomore Grant Austin chipped in 17 points.  Also this week, SJCP defeated Key School, 62-51, as Austin and Gairey combined for 30 points. Coach Silas Chueng the Vikings will visit Key, on Friday, for a rematch with the Obezags.
