Edwards scores 22 points as Patriots drop second straight

Sophomore Drew Edwards scored 22 points as Calvert Hall College defeated No. 3 John Carroll School, 50-43, in a MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League basketball match Thursday evening.

Trailing by eight points at halftime, the LaSalle Road school found its stroke from three-point range to capture lead. The Patriots got to within three in the fourth quarter, but Calvert Hall (13-11 overall, 8-5 MIAA A, 5-6 BCL) pulled away to avenge a 52-33 loss in early January.

Rodney Elliott led John Carroll (21-8, 9-5 MIAA A, 8-4 BCL) with 14 points. The defending MIAA A champ Patriots have dropped two straight after winning five in a row by one possession.

Calvert Hall will try for another “upset” when defending BCL champ and fourth-ranked Mount St. Joseph is in Towson Friday evening. John Carroll hosts McDonogh School in MIAA A play then takes on No. 1 Dunbar at the Maryland Challenge at Coolidge (D.C.) Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
