|Boys' Latin surges in the third quarter to vanquish St. Paul's|
Four Lakers scored in double figures, Friday night, leading Boys' Latin to a 67-55 MIAA B Conference basketball victory over St. Paul's, in Brooklandville.
Boys' Latin (20-4, 15-1) overcame a 28-25 St. Paul's lead at the half by outscoring the Crusaders 25-10 in the third quarter.
Blair Brooks led all scorers with 23 points, while Colin Heacock added 13 points and Casey Rees and Brendan Fields each chipped in with 11 for coach Cliff Rees.
Rees said his team was able to get out and run in the second half.
"We got some stops on the defensive end that got us out in transition, and that was really the difference," said the Laker head coach.
Rees also had kind words for St. Paul's and coach Seth Goldberg.
"I give credit to Seth; they're a young team, and they came out and played aggressive and hard, and completely took us out of our game in the first half."
The Lakers continue to lead the B Conference with a 15-1 record and have now clinched a first round bye for the playoffs. Annapolis Area Christian, which upset the Lakers on Monday, lost to Severn on Friday, dropping the Eagles (12-4) out of contention for the top seed. BL need one win in its final two games, or one loss by St. Vincent Pallotti (11-3) to lock up the top seed.
With the playoffs looming, Rees said that his team has to stay hungry and has to finish strong to capture the conference title.
Daniel Wilson paced the Crusaders (11-11, 9-6) with 18 points, freshman Zach Bare added 12, and Jason Tucker had 11. With three regular season games to play, St. Paul's has clinched no worse than a fifth seed for the playoffs.
